Sanur was one of Bali’s first tourism destinations. Rather than strutting its stuff like the flashier areas of Bali, Sanur has a quiet kind of glamour that makes it a perfect destination for those who want to escape the crowds but still enjoy great food, a beautiful beach and a whole lot of entertaining and cultural activities.
Built along a beautiful stretch of golden sand, Sanur beach is protected by a reef so it’s perfect for days on the beach, swimming and watersports like stand up paddling, snorkeling and diving. Beyond the reef are some of Bali’s best surf breaks. Boats leave Sanur Harbour for day trips to Nusa Lembongan, Penida and Ceningan every day, some of the most beautiful islands surrounding Bali.
Restaurants and beach clubs are on the rise in not-so-sleepy Sanur, with some great casual places to hang out including Spice by Chris Salans, Café BatuJimbar, the Fire Station and Soul in the Bowl. Beach Clubs include the Byrdhouse at Segara Village, Sand Beach Club, lots of local places along the waterfront and some more upmarket places to visit including the Tree bar at Maya Sanur.
There are plenty of spas and some great watersports centres including the Rip Curl school of Surf on the beach. Sanur may pretend to be sleepy, in fact it is a beautiful alternative to the busier tourist destinations in Bali and retains its charm and beauty.
