Many of our villas in Seminyak have fully equipped kitchens, but all of them are close to an amazing collection of restaurants, many of them on Jalan Oberoi, Bali’s famous “Eat Street.” Foodies will find a paradise of culinary variety augmented by amazing ambiance and fascinating design. Here are a ten of our favorite options for dining in Seminyak.
Sarong – Asian Fusion
Famous Chef Will Meyrick follows up his success around the Asian Pacific with his first offering in Bali. Indian dishes such as crispy duck or Tandoori squid stuffed with paneer cheese and cashew nuts mixed or Thai basil and coconut nam jihm will make diners exclaim “nam nam!”
Zibiru – Italian
Our resident Italian food snob endorses chef Luigi Calcagno’s Zibiru without reservation, so you know it has to be good to meet the high standards of a native Italian. Zibiru’s ‘bottega’ in Seminyak also offers fresh breads and imported meats and cheeses that you can take back to your villa kitchen. Wednesday through Saturday enjoy live jazz in the rustic ambience of this hidden gem on Jalan Drupadi.
Boss Man Burgers – American/Australian/Greek
A hip relaxed setting provides an appropriate place to “grind” on traditional burgers like the “Original Gangster” or select more ambitious options such as the Adonis burger, featuring lamb shoulder slow roasted for 36 hours with grilled saganaki cheese, cucumber and dill tzatziki and tahini mayo. Don’t pass on the indulgent truffle, porcini and parmesan fries.
Sardine – Seafood
This restaurant features serene views of rice paddies hidden in the heart of Seminyak. They have their own organic garden that supplies ingredients for their fresh, delectable salads. The menu changes frequently to make use of the freshest available fish. Peking duck with tamarind reduction offers a reliable alternative to the variety of creatively prepared seafood.
Sisterfields – Brunch
The acai berry bowl with blueberries, goji berries, almond milk, and cocoa nibs is a highlight of this fresh homemade brunch restaurant.
Watercress – Health Food
Wildly creative salads with a cornucopia of ingredients take center stage. Choose a delicious fresh juice to round your rejuvenating meal. Who says eating healthy can’t be fun?
Motel Mexicola – Mexican
Mexicola features colorful Mexican country décor, ceviche, shredded pork tacos, jugs of margaritas, and, as the night wears on, dancing on the tables and waiters pouring tequila directly into your mouth. Ole!
Sea Circus – Brunch
This brunch spot is an apt choice for a follow up to Mexicola. You could say the theme of Sea Circus is recovery. Hangover happy meals like “Sin City” come with coffee and ibuprofen. Liver love includes coconut water and a wheatgrass shot. Sea Circus also offers shoulder and neck massage for the weary “cocktail enthusiast.”
Petitenget – Balinese Fusion
Chef Simon Blaby is committed to the farm to fork philosophy but is not above adding a few exquisite imported ingredients. Try Balinese pork belly with chili caramel and black peppercorns or Balinese duck risotto with wild mushrooms, pistachios, pecorino and truffle oil.
Mama San – Asian Fusion
We have saved our favorite restaurant in Seminyak for last. Mama San offers a mix of small plates based on the cuisine of Thailand, Burma, China, Vietnam, and Indian. Our favorite dish is: all of them. The choosiest of foodies may quibble with this or that, but we predict this restaurant will blow your mind.
