Echo Beach in the Canggu area of Bali is a great spot for a relaxing vacation. The area has lovely scenery, with rice field terraces, temples, flowering trees and ocean views. There are lots of fun things to do in the area. Here are five of our top recommendations, including a “secret spot”!
Tanah Lot Temple
Tanah Lot means “Land (in the) Sea. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to the sea god Baruna on a rock island jutting from the ocean just a hundred meters or so off the coast. It is about 15 minutes from Echo Beach, not technically in Canggu but nearby. It is one of Bali’s seven sea temples. It is a spectacular place to watch the sunset. Our Tanah Lot tip – walk a couple hundred meters to the right from the temple as you face the sea and you will see a smaller temple on an island connected to the mainland by a natural sea bridge carved in the rock by the wave action. There are far fewer people there.
Horse Back Riding
Bali Equestrian Centre is about 1 km from Echo Beach in Pererenan. Their horses are very well cared for. They have beach and village tours suitable for adults and children as young as 7. For younger kids, they offer on site pony rides.
Splash Water Park And Canggu Club Trampolines
Slide through the water and fly through the air at the upscale Canggu club has a great water park for kids and adults who are young at heart. They also have a big trampoline center which is super fun for all ages. Canggu club is just 10 minutes from Echo Beach.
Nirwana Golf Course
Nirwana Golf course is 15 minutes from Echo beach near Tanah Lot. This Greg Norman Designed course has rice terrace and ocean views. You can see the famous sea temple from some parts of the course.
Ssssh! “Secret Spot” Temple
Bali has several very famous temples that attract throngs of tourists, but there are also smaller temples throughout the Echo Beach area, and a big one right at the beach. Our favorite temple near Echo is hidden behind the warungs at Batu Bolong, just 1 km south of Echo. If you walk to the far south of the local style restaurants lining the parking lot at Batu Bolong (also known as Tugu), you can walk behind the eateries. There you will find a small temple with an incredible density of ornate carvings in black lava rock. You will almost certainly be the only person there. You can’t enter the temple, but you can see plenty by walking around the perimeter.
